Trauma Therapy in BC, Online
Trauma isn't only about what happened — it's about what your mind and body learned in order to survive it. Long after the event, those survival responses can keep firing: the hypervigilance, the flashbacks, the numbness, the sense that you're never quite safe. If parts of your past are still living in your present, healing is possible, and it can happen at a pace that feels safe to you.
Trauma can show up as:
Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares
Feeling constantly on guard, jumpy, or unsafe
Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from yourself
Avoiding people, places, or reminders of what happened
Difficulty trusting others or feeling close
Shame, guilt, or a belief that it was somehow your fault
How counselling helps
Trauma-informed therapy is built around safety and choice — you're always in control of the pace, and we never push you to relive more than you're ready for. We help your nervous system learn that the danger has passed, so the past can become something you remember rather than something you keep re-experiencing.
Healing often involves building stability and grounding skills first, then gently processing what happened, and finally reconnecting with a sense of self that isn't defined by the trauma.
Our approach
Our therapists are trained in trauma-focused modalities including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Trauma-Focused CBT, and somatic approaches that work with the body as well as the mind. Sessions are online across BC, in English and Portuguese. See also our pages on PTSD and ICBC recovery.

Trauma is a sensitive topic. If you're in immediate distress or thinking about harming yourself, please contact 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline, call or text) or your local emergency services. We're here for ongoing support, not crisis response.
