First Nations Counselling

Health Authority (FNHA) Funding

trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and covered by FNHA.

How does FNHA-funded counselling work?

  1. Check your eligibility. FNHA Health Benefits are for eligible First Nations people in BC who are registered with the plan.

  2. Complete our funding form. It takes a few minutes and helps us set up your coverage and match you with the right counsellor. Complete the FNHA funding form (PRE-DETERMINATION FORM) and email it to: info@psychotherapyroom.ca

  3. We confirm your coverage. Our team handles the paperwork with the funder, and you don't have to figure it out alone. We contact you when it’s approved. It can take up to 5 business days.

  4. Book your first session. We'll match you with a counsellor and schedule your appointment, online or at our Vancouver office.

  5. Start counselling. For covered sessions, we bill the funder directly. There are no costs to you.

We work with First Nations clients across BC, online and in person in Vancouver. If you are eligible for FNHA Health Benefits, your counselling may be covered, so cost shouldn’t stop you from getting support.

Our approach

Our care is trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive. We know that many people have had experiences with mainstream systems that left them feeling unheard, and we work to be a different kind of space. You set the pace. You are the expert on your own life, and counselling is a partnership.

We offer counselling in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Our clinicians work with individuals, couples, families, and youth.

Counselling is one option among many. FNHA also supports Traditional Wellness, and we encourage you to explore whatever combination of supports feels right for you.

How to use the First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework

Carol Hopkins, Executive Director of the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation

Psychotherapy Room gratefully acknowledges that our Vancouver office is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɫ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. As we also offer counselling online across British Columbia, we recognize that our clients and team live and work on the homelands of many Indigenous Peoples throughout the province. We honour their enduring relationship with these lands and waters, and we are committed to ongoing learning, and to trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive care.
