Christian Counselling and Therapy for People of Colour, Online in BC
Your faith, your culture and your story are not things to leave at the door. They are part of how you hurt, how you heal and what gives your life meaning. At Psychotherapy Room, Christian counselling in BC and culturally responsive therapy for people of colour come together in one place, with a Registered Clinical Counsellor who will meet you as a whole person.
Whether you want prayer and Scripture woven into your sessions, or you simply want a therapist who won't flinch when you talk about church, family expectations or racism at work, you can start here.
You Shouldn't Have to Choose Between Your Faith and Your Mental Health
Many people carry a quiet worry into therapy. Will the counsellor dismiss my beliefs? Will I have to explain my culture before we can even begin? Will I be told that what I feel about racism is "too sensitive"?
Those worries are real, and they keep many people from getting help. Here, your values guide the work. You decide how much faith is part of your sessions, and your lived experience is treated as knowledge, not as something to defend.
Faith-Based Christian Counselling: Clinically Grounded, Spiritually Respectful
Christian counselling with Tolu combines evidence-based therapy with a faith-informed perspective, at a pace and depth you choose. It is professional counselling, not a sermon, and it never replaces your church or pastor.
What it can include, if you want it:
Opening or closing a session with prayer
Drawing on Scripture, hope and meaning as sources of strength
Exploring where you sense God in a hard season, and where you feel distant
Making sense of guilt, shame, forgiveness and boundaries through a lens that fits your beliefs
Healing from church hurt or spiritual harm, without being pushed to stay or to leave
Christian couples and marriage counselling and family counselling rooted in shared values
Tolu integrates faith alongside proven approaches such as CBT, DBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, somatic work and EMDR-informed care. You bring the faith; therapy brings the tools.
Counselling for People of Colour: Care That Understands Your World
Racism, microaggressions and the pressure to always be "strong" take a real toll on mental health. Culturally responsive counselling makes room for that reality instead of treating it as background.
Tolu supports Black, Indigenous, African, Caribbean, Asian, Latin American, mixed-race and other clients of colour with:
Stress from racism, discrimination or being "the only one" at work or school
Exhaustion from code-switching and constantly managing how others see you
Anxiety, depression and burnout
Racial trauma and the lasting effects of past harm
Living between cultures and generations, including newcomer and immigration adjustment
Family and community expectations around success, marriage, gender roles and faith
Grief and loss, including loss that comes with migration
Raising children of colour in Canada
You won't be asked to educate your therapist about your identity. Tolu works from a trauma-informed, attachment-based and culturally responsive framework that starts with curiosity and respect.
Where Faith and Culture Meet
For many families, church is more than a place of worship. It is community, extended family and a lifeline. That can make reaching out for therapy feel complicated. Some people hear "just pray about it" or worry that counselling means their faith isn't strong enough.
Seeking counselling is not a lack of faith. Prayer and therapy can work together. Tolu understands how faith, culture and family shape the way people experience distress, and helps you find support that honours all three.
