Paula Coutinho brings 17 years of experience as a Clinical Counsellor and Clinical Director of the Psychotherapy Room. She earned a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselling and Psychological Studies. She holds registrations with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (RCC-ACS), the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), the Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance (CADDRA), and the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP).

Paula provides direct services and supervision to clinical counsellors and practicum students. She uses evidence-based approaches such as Brief Solution-Focused (BSF), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MCBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) through an anti-oppressive, culturally-sensitive, and trauma-informed lens. She is versed in serving neurodivergent, immigrants, BIPOC, LGBTQ2SIA+, survivors of human/labor trafficking, and individuals with developmental/physical disabilities. She is a part-time faculty graduate-level instructor leading counseling courses and supervising doctoral students’ dissertations. She is interested in various research topics, including technology and mental well-being, attention regulation, eating disorders, sport psychology, and mental health stigma.
